ARSENOPYRITE after PYRRHOTITE with SPHALERITE and SIDERITE
Double Rainbow Mine, Galena, Lawrence County, South Dakota, USA 4 × 2 × 2 cm

Sold Specimen Number: 1100-0118 Browse All Specimens
We originally got this specimen labeled Gilman, Colorado, but ultimately Mike Jensen convinced me that it is actually from the Double Rainbow Mine in South Dakota. The 1.5 cm pyrrhotite barrels are completely replaced by arsenopyrite in a ordered fashion that almost looks like it started as an epitactic growth. Is it possible that these could be primary twinned arsenopyrite aggregates, and not pseudomorphs at all?
