The city of Příbram in Central Bohemia has been a long time silver producer. Mining began in the 16th century, and lasted for more than 400 years. This is a fine matrix specimen from the historic mines in the region, featuring silver wires to 2.5 cm in length and 2 mm in width etched from the eclosing calcite matrix. Many of the wires are quite thin, and have intergrown to create a delicately nested appearance. Black oxide has developed on much of the silver, creating a wonderful level of contrast against the white matrix. A beautiful piece from a historic locale.
