The Black Bear Mine was one of the properties ultimately incorporated into the Idarado Mine, and specimens are seldom seen with this designation. The gold on this specimen is mostly coated by an unknown black material that could be hessite, but that is just a guess. As with many Idarado gold samples this one is on a matrix of white quartz with associated sulfides including galena, sphalerite, and chalcopyrite. Unfortunately I don't know the collection this specimen came from, but the number on the specimen does match the number on the label.
