Bill & Carol Smith Collection
Bill and Carol Smith amassed a quite comprehensive suite of Pakistani minerals over the years picking up unusual species and habits of common minerals whenever they could. They were always quick to visit Dudley Blauwet of Mountain Minerals (their primary source) when he returned from buying trips to Pakistan in hopes of picking up another unusual specimen for the suite.
The famous Stak Nala location has produced most of the elbaite tourmaline crystals from Pakistan. They are usually quite distinctive zoned and often doubly terminated crystals, and are usually associated with a feldspar matrix. The tourmaline crystals on this specimen are zoned dark to light green and two of the three crystals are doubly terminated. The third, central, crystal is broken on the dark end, but the damage is not evident as displayed.
