Bill & Carol Smith Collection
Egremont is loaded with wonderful twinned calcite crystals, but ones like this are not often seen on matrix. The specimen display great from at least two angles. The most obvious display angle shows the face of the prominent twin, but from that direction there is an obvious contact showing on the crystal, so the reverse angle might be a better choice. Bill got this specimen in an exchange with the US National Museum in 1954 on the same day he acquired 1301-BS0209. Exchanges like this were a much more common practice then. The elegantly scribed specimen number “R2292” signifies that it was from the Roebling collection.
