Jim & Dawn Minette Collection
Pseudomorphs have always fascinated me, and this piece is certainly no exception. Tincalconite forms from the natural dehydration of borax, transforming the once glassy and translucent borax to an opaque snow white. The monoclinic form of the borax blades are retained during the transition to trigonal-trapezohedral tincalconite. This introduces a delicate earthy luster while maintaining the wonderful geometric form of the borax. This piece was originally collected by Vince Morgan circa 1955, and retains its label from the James and Dawn Minette Collection. The specimen has been stabilized with white glue on its backside, and displays beautifully from its face.
